AutismNE is a parent/family support and resource network which was founded in May 2003 for families who have loved ones with autism. It began as a parent support for children with autism and is growing to meet the needs for all individuals who have autism.
As a support and resource network AutismNE provides an online resource website and family email forum (on yahoo groups) the email forum provides both a social connection and also information postings on upcoming events/ fundraisers and support group information around Northeast Ohio.
In 2009 AutismNE merged with ASGC (Autism Society of Greater Cleveland) AutismNE and ASGC are working together to provide more resources and support for all who have autism in the Northeast Ohio area. For information about ASGC see "About Us" on the ASGC website.
As a networking facilitator; On the AutismNE forum posting board; there are postings from other groups around Northeast Ohio to provide information about their meetings and activities - these groups are independently ran and not owned by AutismNE or ASGC. The postings from those groups are sent through the AutismNE group forum and can be accessed at the messages link or may be found in the Files section if there is an informational flyer for the group. Some of the groups may be listed on the AutismNE calendar as Upcoming Events or shared information that is printed or announced at an ASGC monthly meeting.

About the Founder of AutismNE:
My passion is in Non-Profit community support.
In May 2003 I founded AutismNE - Autism Parent/ falmily Support in Northeast Ohio as an on-line support and resource group. On this website I provide resources about local service providers, a calendar of upcoming support meetings, a blog, and photo albums of family events. I like to help in both informational and social development for the community.
Why my interest is in in Non-Profit community service:
My son was born in 1998 and was diagnosed in 2002 at the age of 3 years with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developemental Disorder, PDD is on the autism spectrum). This lead me to realizing my desire to help others find resources and support as it had been very difficult for me in the beginning to find the support that I needed for our family.
Since May 2003, AutismNE has grown to over 500 members and has been a good resource and support to parents, grandparents and family members as well as caregivers and special educational instructors.
See my published story which tells how we became aware of our son's autism and what we did to help him.
